Background

Setting up a regional science park is one of the strategies to distribute prosperity to the locals

by using science and technology to induce changing structure in local economy. The Ministry of Science and Technology by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) as the core, together with other northeastern university including Khon Kaen University, Suranaree University of Technolgy, Ubonratchathani University and Mahasarakham University has set up the Northeast Science Park. The NSTDA has prior experience in setting up and administering Thailand Science Park, which is the first Science Park in Thailand. On 10 February 2004, the Secretarial of Cabinets’ had resolutions to promote competitive knowledge society in order to increase proportions of entrepreneurs having innovations by focusing on using knowledge with various products and services with value over 50% GDP to increase locals’ income, quality of life and economy. One of the strategies to achieve these goals is to establish the science park as the basic foundation for developing science and technology of our country in terms of human development, supporting research and development and supporting of technology and knowledge transfer to regional and local levels. The project of setting up the Northeastern Science Park are run by Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) which was approve d by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
